What is land clearing
Land clearing is the large scale removal of vegetation from areas of land prior to the commencement of any agricultural, residential, commercial or industrial development.
Depending on the purpose of vegetation removal, the scope of the project may require the elimination of all large trees, all smaller understorey vegetation, or the removal of all vegetation back to bare earth.
Advantages of Land Clearing
Enhance the Usability of the Land - If an overgrown block of land is classed as uninhabitable or useless, clearing will ensure access and usability for a range of purposes including parkland, construction or farming. Community Safety - Overgrown land filled with dead trees, rotting wood, rubbish and dense bush becomes a haven for feral animals and vermin, which enangers local wildlife and the environment in surrounding areas. Promotes Healthy Trees - Overcrowded trees must compete with one another for sunlight, water and nutrients in the soil. Trees suffering from nutrient deficiencies grow poorly, become weak and susceptible to disease. Select land clearing reduces competition, while improving tree health, form and structure.
Weed Control - Thick, dense, overgrown land encourages weeds, undesirable plant growth and pests, which use the area as a base to spread into neighbouring blocks. Land Clearing removes all undesirable growth and pest habitats while improving access for land management.
Fire Control - Overcrowded vegetation increases the risk of fires, especially during drought conditions. The removal of remnant vegetation through land clearing, and the construction of fire breaks reduces the risks of wildfires and associated property damage.
Enhancing Aethetics and Land Value - Land clearing services removes unsightly, unwanted and dead vegetation which improves the natural beauty of the land and it's value.
Council Requirements
All land clearing operations must be undertaken according to the regulations and standards set by the Gold Coast City Council. Many Australian native trees are protected by Vegatation Protection Orders (VPO).
An application to Council may be required for the removal or damage to assessable vegetation on all private property.
